ABA Therapy in Georgia – FAQs
What is ABA therapy?
ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. It helps children with autism improve communication, reduce challenging behaviors, and build daily living skills.
How do I start ABA therapy in Georgia?
Start by getting an official autism diagnosis from a licensed provider, such as a psychologist or developmental pediatrician. This is required before insurance can approve ABA services.
What happens after the diagnosis?
We’ll help you check your insurance coverage, request authorization, and match your child with a qualified ABA therapist. If you’re eligible for Medicaid or the Katie Beckett Waiver, those programs can also help cover services.
Is ABA therapy covered by insurance in Georgia?
Yes. In Georgia, most private insurance plans and Medicaid cover ABA therapy for children with an autism diagnosis.
Under Ava’s Law, state-regulated private plans must cover ABA therapy for children up to age 21, with an annual cap of $35,000. Coverage typically requires a formal autism diagnosis, proof of medical necessity, and pre-authorization.
Georgia Medicaid also covers ABA services under EPSDT (Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment). Children under 21 may qualify for up to 40 hours per week, depending on age and clinical need.
To confirm coverage, check with your insurance provider and make sure your ABA provider is in-network and authorized.
Can my child get ABA therapy at daycare or school?
Sometimes—it depends on your insurance plan. Some private plans and Medicaid options in Georgia allow ABA services to take place at daycare or school with proper documentation and approval.
We’ll review your benefits, request any required authorizations, and guide you through the process to see if in-school or daycare-based therapy is covered.
How many hours of ABA therapy will my child receive?
A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will evaluate your child’s needs and create an individualized treatment plan. Most children are recommended between 10 to 40 hours per week of ABA therapy, depending on their age, goals, and level of support needed.
Insurance companies often follow the BCBA’s recommendation when approving hours, but final coverage may vary by plan.
What age is best to start ABA therapy?
ABA therapy is most effective when started early. Toddlers and preschool-aged children often make the most progress with early intervention, but school-aged children can benefit greatly too.
We provide ABA services for children of all ages across Georgia—starting as early as age 2. The earlier support begins, the better the outcomes.
What ages do you work with?
We provide ABA therapy for children and young adults from birth through age 21. Our services support toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children across Georgia, with programs tailored to each stage of development.
Whether your child is just starting out or already in school, we’re here to help every step of the way.
Do you include parent training?
Yes! Parents are part of the team and learn strategies to support progress at home.
How soon can we start?
After insurance approval, we aim to begin within 2–4 weeks.
Where in Georgia do you offer services?
We serve families in Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta, Macon, and nearby areas—in-home and community-based.
What should I look for in a good ABA provider in Georgia?
Look for BCBAs, supervised RBTs, personalized plans, consistent data tracking, and parent involvement. Accreditation and strong reviews also matter.
